Less Entangled

Anja’s eyes twitched behind heavy eyelids as her consciousness struggled to reach the surface and open her eyes. With a rush of feeling she snapped awake and her eyelids jerked opened. Confusion and concern wrapped themselves through her mind as she stared at what appeared to be a blank perfectly white wall. She tried to look around but despite willing her neck to turn it didn’t move a fraction of an inch. Silence filled her ears and the harsh light left no shadows. She tried to move again, nothing.
Suddenly she felt herself walking and looking around. Desperately she took in her surroundings. It was all blank perfect white in every direction. Had she gone blind? Still she felt herself walking forward and then shrugging something off of her shoulder and handing it into the blank air while she spoke strange words she didn’t recognize. She caught a glimpse of her pale skin as her arm reach forward and in mime like fashion hand something to thin air. With a mental start she realized she was probably completely nude.
She struggled to remember anything but her memories all seemed to flee at the slightest mental touch. There were traces of emotion but little else. An underlying current of nervousness was covered by a thin layer of tension. All Anja knew was her body was not obeying her and she was not supposed to be here. She was convinced something was wrong. Anja continued walking and felt slightly dizzy as she leaned forward and sat down on something cold and slick. She tried to see what it was but her body refused to listen. Some time later she got up and started walking in place while occasionally stiffly bowing at the waist to nothing.
After what felt like what must surely have been hours of sitting, standing and talking in a language she couldn’t understand. Anja felt relief when she felt herself recline onto something soft and spongy. Her arms and shoulders relaxed as a yawn surged up through her as her head rolled and her shoulders scrunched. She sensed her muscles pull together to leave the comfort of the padding and begin moving again. Anja retreated to the back of her mind and silently perched while she experienced her body walking over something with tight curled rough textured nubs all tightly packed together. Each step crashed through her mind with force. The surface transitioned suddenly with one step into a cool pitted surface with ridges and edges that sent fire racing up through her body.
She observed herself step over something and then lean forward to twist her hand while gripping nothing she could see. A moment later Anja felt her neck arch and her eyes close. Her previous panic began to come back. Moments later Anja encountered a new sensation where she felt hundreds of light small touches on her face. They were accompanied by a warmth spreading with the light pressure over her whole body. Strokes of warmth wrapped around her and filled her mind with contentment as she sensed her body relax. The contentment pushed away her panic and left her content but confused.
Something with a soft warm texture was pulled across her body. Anja watched her clenched hands moving back and forth around herself moving something to combat chilled streaks racing down her legs. More movement, more sensation and then eventually Anja felt herself slip away. Oblivion swallowed her.
Hiroshi had greeted Anja at the transport terminal and she had gratefully accepted his help to carry her bag. She was feeling a little dizzy after her transport and took the opportunity to let Hiroshi guide her to the car and drive her to her meeting. The meeting with the Tokyo partners had gone well and Anja felt certain both Senshu and Bayern would benefit from working together. After a long day of meetings she had thoroughly enjoyed a quiet dinner and a long hot shower before slipping into a deep sleep. In the morning Anja had wakened early and Hiroshi had taken her to the transport station back to Berlin. Her post transport dizziness was worse than usual and she’d had a lingering feeling that she was somehow less than she had been. However, Anja’s Doctor assured her nothing was safer than quantum entanglement teleportation.
